I wonder if this is where Descartes got his famous line "I think, therefore I am".
It would seem that Descartes felt that the mind and heart lay at the essence of a person's being. Whatever he meant, thinking and being are closely related to each other. My thoughts reveal who I am, as they ultimately shape what I do.
Perhaps Jesus had this in mind in Mark 7:21 - "What comes out of a man is what makes him unclean; for from within, out of men's hearts, come ....
I so very much agree. I would add to the heart and mind, the spirit. The spirit is our essence which I believe links the heart and mind and is the eternal element we all have within us. I also believe that this is what connects us with the Spirit of Jesus. And possibly what connects us with the spirti of others. What are your thoughts about this?
